Salman Khan inks Rs 500 crore deal with STAR network

In a never-heard-before agreement, STAR network has obtained the satellite rights of all the Dabangg actor’s films for the next five years

With his recent records at the box office, looks like Salman Khan’s career is on an all-time high. Now that he has become a phenomenon of sorts and is being dubbed as the Rajinikanth of B-town, the actor has decided to cash in on the small screen too.
As per the contract Salman has signed with Star Gold, the channel has bagged the exclusive satellite rights to broadcast all the films featuring Salman that releases between January 2013 to December 2017 – which may include Kick, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, Sohail Khan’s Mental, Boney Kapoor’sNo Entry Mein Entry, Subhash Ghai’s untitled film and also Sooraj Barjatya’s family drama besides others that will release before December 2017.
Interestingly, since it’s a contract between a channel and an actor, Star network will pay Rs 500 crores to Sallu. It can be thus assumed that each Salman film will approximately be priced at Rs 50 crores and that the actor will do two films on an average, per year.
In today’s time, the cost of buying the satellite rights of a big budget Bollywood movie is estimated at around Rs 50 crores. So Salman’s price is justifiable. Even if Sallu delivers a flop, he will not have to worry about the recovery of his film, considering that he has already sold his projects to Star network.
Congratulations Salman, so now what next? Rs 1000 crore deal? We won’t be surprised!
